I don't know a whole lot about the UO:R shard, I have watched some streams of Quick doing some map development on there and he did a great job, so there are probably other great things on there. I'm UOF's main developer, so admittedly bias, though I figured I could help provide some insight into some of your questions. I know people are going to tell me to try Outlands but I just didn't like the overwhelming experience. I want to just do my thing and maybe trade with other players along the way. I don't want to pay money for items that are going to help me progress. Let me know what UO Server I should play on (NON-CUSTOM). I've played both but didn't get far enough into either of them to really figure out what I liked/disliked as I mostly focus on myself and my character build/gold grind. I like the live online experience.Īll the posts I've seen about UOF and UOR have been split down the middle.Ĭomplaints about UOF are that its a cash grab thats always looking for donations and kind of Pay to Win/Progress - but the servers and events are more active and populated.Ĭomplaints about UOR is that the player base is lower than UOF but its more true to the original UO game without the donations for items all over the place. I don't want instanced rentals in an Inn. I want the chance to place a house somewhere in the world and find houses IDOC. However, I just want to emulate the old UO experience on the classic map I have engrained in my brain. I had many people try to convince me to stick around and take the deep learning curve to play it and enjoy it. I attempted UO Outlands but it was a little too customized for my likings. However, Endless Journey imposes limitations, such as having no access to personal housing or gain rewards from Champions.I am an old school UO player. Ultima Online can be played in the Endless Journey mode, which is free to play or Premium subscription. Ultima Online has received 10 expansions since Ultima Online: The Second Age in 1998 to Ultima Online: Time of Legends in 2016, each introducing new gameplay elements, such as new races, skills, areas, and balancing. Players in Ultima Online can travel the world, develop their craft and resource gathering skills, build a house, go on adventures hunting monsters, become bandits that attack other players in unprotected areas, and more. Although there are quest-granting NPCs, there is no main storyline. They would then select their starting location from the Trammel or Ter Mur areas.Īnything after character creation is largely up to the player. Or the player may choose the Advanced creation, which lets them select and allocate their Strength, Intelligence, and Dexterity and the starting skills. There are pre-selected skill sets that determine a basic Trade the character will play, such as Warrior, Mage, Paladin, Ninja, Necromancer, Blacksmith, or Samurai. Ultima Online players will then select from a variety of skills. There are options to further customize their character Avatar's appearance, from gender, skin tone, clothing, and hair. In Ultima Online, players create their Avatar by first choosing one of the 3 playable races: Human, Elf, or Gargoyle. However, Ultima Online is probably the most well-known MMORPG that established the familiar features and gameplay elements that most people associate with the genre. Ultima Online was not the first online roleplaying game, as it was preceded by MUDs and MUSHs, as well as games like Neverwinter Nights, The Realm Online, and Meridian 59.
